About

I love hiking boots & wool socks... year-round. Coffee followed by tea. Soup & Salad. Camera around my neck... little people by my side. Learning and making... always.

I am the mama of a California family. We lived in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia, Canada for almost five years. In 2013 we made our way back out west to New Mexico, then in 2014 turned right around and headed back east. We are now back in Nova Scotia and lovin' it!

This little nook in blogland was created to share little bits of simple things I make on my own and with my kiddos, to show a bit of what inspires me, and to connect with others in this big wide world.

I would love to hear from you in the comments or you can email me at: dawnsuzette@gmail.com

  1. I love "Novi," as my family calls it. We're Acadien-Canadian, my Memere still lives in NB, and we have many cousins throughout the maritime provinces. I hope you like your new home, it's a magical place! I do my best to get back there every year to re-fill my tank.

    1. It is a beautiful place... we have enjoyed learning about the history, culture and wildlife. And you could not ask for a nicer group of people than you find here in NS!

  2. Hi there, I just found you today via your review of Lori Pickert's book. And I'm so glad I did. I love the Simple Things Nature Notebook section. And I look forward to getting to know more about your learning and living adventures from your posts. We're an "undogmatic unschooling" family from Calgary, AB--a writer and a filmmaker raising a scientist-engineer, artist-paleontologist, and a-don't-label-me-I'm-just-three.

    1. Thanks for the hello!
We had a family nature blog with some neat posts I plan on moving over to the Nature Notebook in the near future. Happy you like what is there so far.
It sounds like our science-engineer-art-paleo kids have a whole lot in common.

  3. Found you today thanks to Melissa over at A Happy Stitch. Was so tickled both by your Andy Goldsworthy backyard art project, and by the fact that you are in New Mexico. As a NM native living in New Jersey,as well as a mom of 1 (soon to be 2), I am sure to find moments of both nostalgia and inspiration on your blog.

    1. Thanks for saying Hi Cala!
New Mexico has been a fun adventure so far. So much to see and explore... and I am totally in love with the sky here! ;-)
Best wishes with your new addition!

  4. Hey there,
I found you in a round about way...via Bird and Little Bird/Alphabet Glue then Mud Puddles to Meteors where I kept seeing glimpses of New Mexico and wondered where the connection was because I knew Annie was in New England. Anyway, I am also a homeschooling mama in NM and would love to connect. I haven't found many other homeschoolers here that love the outdoors and we quite often find ourselves out on our own collecting rocks, counting sand-hill cranes by the river, and getting head to toe muddy....and loving every minute of it. Do you have an email...or should I leave mine here?

    1. Hi Robin,
      Funny how this blogland works!
We are only going to be in NM until the end of Feb. but it is always fun to meet other nature loving families.
You can email me at the email address above.
      Thanks for connecting!

  5. My sweet Dawn! Thank you thank you so much for the beautiful care package. Such delicate work. You've got me wishing for fall just so I can wear your scarf. My kids have already claimed the washcloths for themselves. I had to steal them back just to take pictures. Thank you so much for all the work, time and care you put into every piece. I'm just beyond words.

    Wishing you a beautiful evening.

    1. Yanic,
Yay! I am so excited you like everything! It was great fun to put together and a wonderful chance for me to get back in front of the sewing machine.
      Thanks!
