Making: Patchwork Embroidered Bookmark

A few weeks ago I sat down on the cozy couch with my stash of scraps and started piecing together little tiny squares. I had no idea what I was going to do with them, I just wanted to work on something small. As the night progressed I decided on a bookmark. It's a bit wonky because I was not putting too much effort into cutting every square prefect, but after all the bits were in place I thought it would make a funky little embroidery sampler.  I have been wanting to practice my embroidery stitches... as you can see from my silly stitches I need the practice.

My go-to book for anything needlework related is the Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Needlework. I have had it for years and always refer to it first for questions related to knitting, crochet, applique, quilting... well, just about anything with needle and thread.

So for a few weeks now it has come along with me so I can refer to it for all kinds of fun embroidery stitches, sneaking in a few stitches here and there while I wait for the kiddos to finish up an activity or sitting with the chickens in the backyard.

Silly stitches and all I love the way it turned out. I love batik fabric and really... how can you go wrong when you include pretty little bits of batik?

Needing something new to work on after I completed the bookmark I moved on to one of my crazy quilt squares. What will it become when it's finished? Who knows... ideas are rolling around in this  brain of mine. I let you now what rolls out.

The library has turned up some inspiration as well.. Currently drooling over the stitches and projects in Embroidered Treasures for Children.
