Let's Call it a Studio

Some may call it the laundry room, school room, storage room (gah!) or even simply the art room, but I really want to call it the Studio.

It has a great ring to it. Don't you think?

It has the sound of intention. A word that designates a space with the power to make things happen. To create a mindset right when you cross the threshold. To create a world where it is possible to take folded up bits of fabric, wash them, press them, measure and cut them, then with the simplest supplies and the power of a simple machine, make them into something functional, playful, or just plain beautiful.

And if you don't finish it all in one day the studio does not mind a bit. Just leave it out until tomorrow or whenever you get back to that creation in progress. That is what the studio is for...

A dedicated space for making all matter of creations in their own time, at their own pace, in their own space.

This little studio of ours is a work in progress itself. A few additions will help it become a true place for us all to create. A small table for the kiddos, a bit more organization in those closets (oh, the closets... joy),  a "clothes" line for hanging things in need of dry time...

But for now... it is our studio and we work around each other, spread out, spill over in the dinning room and best of all... create more!

~~~
These photos where taken yesterday after some projects were wrapped up and put on display in the living room... Now it is all ready for that stack of fabric on the chair and the creation of a new diorama in the planning.
I would love to hear about your spaces or dreams of future spaces...
Do you have a dedicated space to create? What do you like best about it?
If you don't what would be your dream space?
  1. What a lovely space. I don't have a dedicated room as my studio, it just isn't possible in a one room schoolhouse. But we have managed to create a space so my stuff can stay in one spot and not have to be put away after each use.
    Happy to see you are settling into your new home.
    1. Thanks Kim. It is such a huge thing to be able to leave works in progress out.
  2. What a bright an cheery room you have to create.
    I do have a studio and I love it, although right now it is a mess and I should clean out. My only complaint is it only has one window facing west so in the morning the light is not the best so I usually have to wait to work in there.
  3. I dream of a studio. A defined space for creating of all kinds equipped with the supplies we have and a few I imagine. I think your space is just right and I love that you call it a studio. As we begin again the search for a home, I have my studio plan in mind.
  4. I did have a room all to myself here at this house. I had a desk for sewing on and a table for cutting fabric. I had a whole book case dedicated to my fabric stash and a whole closet filled with all the other crafting things. We'll see what new space is to come.
    Love your new space by the way. I can see it blossoming into such a beautiful place of inspiration.
  5. Ha! I have no personal space whatsoever in our house. I'm hoping we will have a little bit more space wherever we end up next, but I suppose the odds aren't all that great. I loved the picture of Fionna's roadrunner on FB, by the way!
  7. Oh, I love this idea. Especially this: "A word that designates a space with the power to make things happen." I am thinking our family room needs to be remade into our studio. Yes. Thank you.
  8. And if you make a mess in your studio, the washing machine is right there to help you out!
    I never had a space, or even a desk, and as a writer that felt like a real lack. Then we enlarged a room in order to take over a leaking patio and lo: there was a little space in the corner, tucked away behind the bathroom, perfect for a drawing table that we already had! So we built it out, with windows, and I love it so much. I'm actually in the room where all the action seems to be, but if I put on music with headphones, I can tune it out. If you look into the room from the doorway, you can't even see me! I face away from the room, out the windows, surrounded by my books and inspiration board and am ready to work! It's a tiny space, but it offers me so much.
