A Side Trip: Colorado National Monument

When we headed out on our quick road trip last weekend I did not do much planning. I knew our destination and figured we would find something neat to do when we got there. It was a work related trip for my guy so the kiddos and I would have some time to kill on our own Saturday morning.

It did not take long to figure out that Colorado National Monument was just outside of town. The searching was over. Our Saturday morning was planned...

It was an amazing drive through the monument with many places to stop off and take in the stunning views.

The kids did the Jr. Ranger program and had fun filling out their books and learning a few more details about the geology, flora, and fauna of the monument. There was also a lot of interesting history to take in as well.

They loved it so much they wanted to bring dad back when we picked him up. And that is exactly what we did. Before we headed back home there was one more round to make through the monument with a few more short hikes. Just enough to insight plans for a camping trip. There is so much more to see and do!

Have you ever taken an unexpected side trip that turned out to be amazing?

  1. This looks like Arizona. Breathtaking for sure. We often find ourselves following a bit different path and are often pleasantly surprised.

  2. We do the side trips all the time! This post made me miss home something fierce.

The other day the girls fell asleep in the car and we just went joy riding around and ended up in the most beautiful canyon.
