Make & Listen Along: A little bag

~ On Thursdays I will post what I have been making and listening to as creations grow.
If so inclined post, on your blog or flickr, about what you have been making (on your own or with little hands by your side) and listening to while you create. It can be new music, flash backs, a song or a whole album... whatever you like. You can be stitching with needle & thread, yarn, paper crafting, painting, cooking... and beyond. Share what you are making and the tunes that are fueling your creativity. Then come back to my Thursday Make & Listen Along post and leave a link in the comments so we can be inspired right along with you! ~

It had been awhile since the sewing machine had peeked out from under its cover and it was crying out to be seen. I have a few projects rolling round in this brain of mine, it can be a scary place in there, and they want to get out too!

I finally had a moment to sit down at the machine this week.
Here is what I knew when I sat down:
I needed a bag for a little something I have going with the kiddos.
I needed some low-brainer sewing.
I needed no pattern to follow, because that is not low-brainer!

So, this quirky but cute little bag was born. It may be little but it has big plans in its future. I will share more about how I made it, what it's occupation will be, and a little giveaway next week.

There have also been GF graham crackers made, water color painting flying onto the page, and a whole lot of ball games being made up in the backyard.

Along with all of the usuals and the rumbling of thunder from our awesome afternoon thundershowers, The Civil Wars were added to the mix this week (thanks to Danielle's recommendation) and I really like their sound.

What have you been making?
What is on your play list?
Please do share.

  1. I love your little bag, especially the draw string, and now must get my machine set up to try a few.

I am so happy to join you this week Dawn, I finally remembered to take pictures of my 'making'.

    1. Thanks Tracy. A little quirky with the drawstring showing through on the other side... but I like it!
      Your flamingo is amazing!
Thanks for joining in this week!

  2. Lovely little bag. I have been knitting around here, solar prints are being made and we are pressing flowers for a future project. Oh and canning, lots of canning :)

      And hearing about your canning.

  3. What a lovely little bag. I really like making those. I made a bunch for my shop before leaving for France.
I'm working on a birthday crown for a certain little girl turning two soon. I'm still knitting slowly that green sweater of D's and I've been teaching myself about seafood and how to cook it.

    1. Little bags like this are so handy!
      Yay for a birthday crown!
Love seafood but can only cook is outside, and well, this is not exactly the spot to find it fresh :-) Looking forward to hearing about your adventures with seafood.

  4. That's a cute bag with so many possibilities!
I've not really made anything lately in terms of crafts, but I started a new pencil portrait this week. To keep the hand steady and calm I listen to classical music or something smooth as Sia or Fiona Apple.

    1. Thanks!
      Your portrait illustrations are amazing.
I can see why you would want that calming musical influence while doing such fine detailed work.

    1. Oh, good idea. A bag would be a good replacement for the beat up marble tin that holds them now :-)

  6. One can never ever have enough bags. I collect them like I collect yarn. The best part about your bag is that it does not have velcro so skeins of yarn will not get snagged :)

  7. Yes, bags are great and they are on my list of things to make. Always on the list but not under that sewing needle! Haha! Hmmm...I wonder what it will hold...

Oh, and those thunderstorms of yours sound wonderful. I miss them.
