Make & Listen Along

~ On Thursdays I will post what I have been making and listening to as creations grow.
If so inclined post, on your blog or flickr, about what you have been making (on your own or with little hands by your side) and listening to while you create. It can be new music, flash backs, a song or a whole album... whatever you like. You can be stitching with needle & thread, yarn, paper crafting, painting, cooking... and beyond. Share what you are making and the tunes that are fueling your creativity. Then come back to my Thursday Make & Listen Along post and leave a link in the comments so we can be inspired right along with you! ~

The making around here has been very fun lately.

Some cat ears were a must for the kitty costume. (A trillion thanks to Annie for helping out in the costume idea department... we were in big trouble there for awhile!)

They were fun and simple to make:

- Cut out four triangles of black felt & two smaller triangles of pink felt.
- Match a pink triangle to one black triangle, then sew on the pink triangle.
- Repeat with the other ear.
- Match up the black triangles with a partner. Then sew up the black triangles leaving the bottom open.
- Repeat with other ear.
(We left the bottom open because we thought we might have to put wire in to help them stand up. We did not need it after all.)
- Hand stitch them onto the headband with a whip stitch, using the teeth on the bottom of the headband to help hold them in place.

Now she wants more: orange kitty, brown kitty, white kitty.... oh, meow!

I am so very close to finishing my first leg warmer. Just a few more rows!

I am not a fan of metal needles but could not find size 1 in bamboo or wood. Do they even make wooden needles that small?

Lego building is in overdrive and the castle the little man built has seen some major upgrades. This is a whole post in itself. Hopefully we can share that on Friday. He is so excited about it he asked me to do a photo tour of the castle, and a shot by shot record of a siege.

And we can't forget Halloween!

We did not make new decorations, with the exception of some zombies the kids drew to tape up - it seems we were lacking in zombies, and they had lots of fun decorating the house this week with our box of decorations from past Halloween celebrations. While Halloween is not my favorite holiday, the ghostly ladies above are one of my favorite simple decorations. One of these days I am going to sew a spider web apron to wear for everyday!

Mostly we have been quiet but yesterday we listened to Katie the Witch stories on StoryNory. They have been favorites for years, and not just at Halloween.

Your turn.
Please share what you have been making and the tunes on your playlist. And don't forget to leave a link to your post if you played along so others can visit your Make and Listen posts!

  1. Yes, they do make bamboo needles that small, but I don't like using them. It feels I'm knitting with toothpicks. I pull the yarn tightly at my joins, so much so that all my metal sock needles have a curve to them now. I have some bamboo sock needles but they're with the bookbinding materials--they make an excellent binding with two small rubber bands. :-)

Oh, nearly forgot! Here's my post: http://amyhoodarts.com/2013/10/31/a-bit-of-embroidery/

And I love the kitty ears! Nicely done.

    1. Funny you should mention that... I have an old knitting needle case my mom purchased at an estate sale and a few of the needles have a nice curve to them! ;-)
We are heading up to the yard shop in CO this weekend, I might have to see if they have any I can get to give them a try.
Thanks for joining in this week!

  3. It's been awhile since I've been able to check in on a Thursday--so glad I was able to today to see such sweet projects. Those kitty ears make me wish I still had kids young enough to need costumed created for them.

I've been sewing pillow covers. No blog post yet. I so often have to choose between blogging and doing, and they've been so much fun the doing has been winning out! :-)

    1. I understand that choice. While sharing the doing is fun, living with the doing & being in the moment of the process is even better when choices must be made!
      Thanks for visiting today!

  6. This week I have been hard at work sewing up potholders and creating a top secret slightly epic oven mitt for men. S has been learning to write and has gone over the deep end into mythological character discovery.

    Those fabric scissors are stunning!

    1. Sounds like fun KC.
Love it when mythological characters come around here. We go through phases.

  7. Me, I'm still working on those fingerless gloves for the boys! Can't wait to see those leg warmers!!

Love the kitty ears - funny thing...when I saw the thumbnail for this post on FB it looked like a jack-o-lantern at first glance!

The castle is wonderful! Medieval is pretty cool for make believe.

Off to knit/crochet with a tea. As far as the 'listen' part tonight, it's quiet. ;)
