Make & Listen Along

~ On Thursdays I will post what I have been making and listening to as creations grow.
If so inclined post, on your blog or flickr, about what you have been making (on your own or with little hands by your side) and listening to while you create. It can be new music, flash backs, a song or a whole album... whatever you like. You can be stitching with needle & thread, yarn, paper crafting, painting, cooking... and beyond. Share what you are making and the tunes that are fueling your creativity. Then come back to my Thursday Make & Listen Along post and leave a link in the comments so we can be inspired right along with you! ~

As you may remember, I made some little zip pouches as gifts for the holidays. The other day as I opened the little first aid kit I keep in my purse to retrieve a bandaid (don't ask) I realized that it really was not big enough to hold all of the things I would liked to have with me out in the world with these ever growing, slightly energetic and ever pushing the limits, little people. So, the idea for a little first aid pouch was born.

It has taken me awhile to start, but the other night I spent some quite time in the studio (while messaging back and forth with Annie) and started cutting and sewing. Then I moved fire side for a little stitching and by the end of the night I had the front panel of the bag all ready to go.

I thought about doing a more traditional applique to make the edges all neat and clean but in the end raw edges won out. I might play with this a bit more and try a cotton red all crisp and proper down the line. I should have used two instead of three strands of floss for the stiching. I think this is going to hold up pretty well to being in the purse though. I will test it out.

It was nice to pull out my little sewing pouch again and sit by the fire for those few moments of stitching. I was all set to set it aside for bedtime reading but was thankful "the dad" was picked for reading bedtime stories that night.

The other bits of making around here have been super fun and will be found in the winter volume of Alphabet Glue. When Annie asked me to help her out with this next volume I jumped at the chance. I always love working on projects for AG and the kids have a ton of fun experimenting with ideas to include. We are hard at work for a launch next week! Fun!

My mom arrived yesterday, so the listening around here has been a lot of:
"How many days till grandma comes?"(10, 9, 8, ... 0)
"Where is she now? (at home)
"Where is she now? (waiting at the airport in Denver)
"Where is she now?" (in the air)
"When will we leave to the airport?" (now. please get your shoes on.)
"How long will it take to get the airport?" (an hour)
"We left at 8:05 and it's 9:05. We are not there yet! How much longer?" (any moment now.)
"There are two doors! How will we find her?" (both doors lead to the same big room. she will be there.)
"Where?" (right there. there she is!)
Running through the airport and giving big hugs! Just like in the movies!

That and a bit of The Lumineers.

Your turn.
Please share what you have been making and the tunes on your playlist. And don't forget to leave a link to your post if you played along so others can visit your Make and Listen posts.

I have been trying to get around to visit your posts each week (sometimes it takes me a few days) and they are wonderful! Thanks, to all of you who are joining in and linking up!

  6. That is SOOO adorable! Love the first aid kit! I may just steal your idea! We are wanting to get an earthquake kit updated and ready and its in the plans for this weekend. I may just have to add some embroidery for some extra ooompf! :) Sorry I'm getting my Make and Listen up so late, we were cooling off by the beach today. It was (can you believe it) 90 degrees here in Ventura today! http://summerplayshouse.com/2014/01/17/new-pieces-for-the-felt-board/

Adding some oompf to your earthquake kit sounds awesome. We were just taking earthquake kits the other day :-)

  7. I already told how much I like this on FB. :) I've been gardening this week. Tending to little sprouts and fretting over those yet to come up. I've been sewing for the shop as a well and working on a quilt for V. She's out growing her crib quilt.

That sewing kit sounds like a great idea. I need a place for my hand sewing needles and scissors. :)

  8. I love reading your posts! You have the most wonderful ideas for creating – the way you make the time you have for creating into an environment for creating like sitting by the fire with your sewing kit and just becoming a part of the moment is so wonderful.

I have a ziploc bag full of first aid stuff. It's not pretty and I often think of ways to make a bag for ease of use but have yet to get to it. :) Today I woke up thinking to myself, I want to make a zipper pouch today with the link Dawn posted! To the craft store first!

Have a wonderful time with your mother! Hugs to the kiddos too! xx

I have added myself to the list of makers and listeners today on my art blog:
