I have never been drawn to stamping because I did not like the idea of using the art of another to create my own piece. When we recently pulled out the supplies I had on hand to learn to create our own stamps I had no idea just how much fun it would be... How was it these wonderful little supplies stayed tucked away in the shed so many months?
I have fallen in love with the idea of bringing a sketch from my book to life in the form of a stamp. And my little artist has as well.
We still don't have *all* the supplies I wish for... like a brayer... but we are making do with what we have and having fun in the process. Even when we over ink the pad just a tad. We are learning.
One problem with two stamp makers and one set of tools is that making side-by-side becomes impossible. So what is a mom to do?
I snuck away during all of our holiday making and created a stamp making kit for the little man. A little wooden box filled with his very own speedball lino cutter, lino block, pen, and ink pad. I am so excited for him to have supplies of his very own.
Do you make stamps? Any books, tips or supplies you love?
this is something i've always wanted to do but *hangs head* am a bit afraid of. my drawing skills being incredibly is a huge hurdle.
ReplyDeleteI am with you about the drawing skills. I think that is a big reason why I have waited so long to jump into this craft. I don't have a lot of confidence in my drawing, The great thing I have discovered about stamps is that simple drawings make great stamps. I can do simple.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! The thing I love the most about stamp making is that it is so forgiving about precision drawing. I'm not a great a drawing either but the stamps always come out looking great. :)
