Make & Listen Along

Make and Listen Along
~ On Thursdays I will post what I have been making and listening to as creations grow.
If so inclined post, on your blog or flickr, about what you have been making (on your own or with little hands by your side) and listening to while you create. It can be new music, flash backs, a song or a whole album... whatever you like. You can be stitching with needle & thread, yarn, paper crafting, painting, cooking... and beyond. Share what you are making and the tunes that are fueling your creativity. Then come back to my Thursday Make & Listen Along post and leave a link in the comments so we can be inspired right along with you! ~

This week has been a bit slow on the making side of things. The girl and I were hit pretty hard with food poisoning. We don't eat out often and now it is really going to become a rare occasion.

But yesterday we were feeling a bit more like ourselves and managed to get the watercolors out. There were some fun creations going on until we ran out of watercolor paper, now on the list for shopping today! Lots of other project planning made the list grow as well so I am thinking this next week the making will kick into overdrive to "make" up for lost time!

Watercolor blotter paper as I did not have permission to share creations this round!

While we were in the depths of our sickness the house was pretty quite. Once we were a bit more coherent I allowed a documentary. Usually a no TV while sick rule applies, but I was sick too and taking care of little people sickness while you are sick too... well, that is a stretch! And that documentary is one of my favorites. If it is not going to be Sir David Attenborough then I love to hear Dr. Iain Stewart. What can I say, I am sucker for smart nature lovin' guys with accents. I mostly listened along while laying on the couch with the girl!

While making dinner last night I listened to this

After dinner I headed out to the porch swing for some knitting. As I stitched and listened to the wild turkeys a not so funny thing happened.

I broke my needle!

There you have it. My suspicions confirmed. I am knitting a bit too tight with these little tiny needles!

I had serious thoughts of ditching this little project. But they passed quickly and I hopped up to get my set of double pointed size 2 needles.

I snapped the picture above and started knitting again, transferring stitches over to the double pointed as I went.

Gobble, Gobble... from the field below!

Funny the way things work. After a few rounds I am finding that I like these needles better. My stitches have loosened up (don't want to think about what this is doing for gauge right now... bury head in sand) and I am enjoying this knitting more now than before!

There you have it!

We are well and making and listening again...

What have you been making?
What is on your play list?
Please do share!

  3. Oh you poor dears, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better.
Being sick is no fun at all, but when the littles are sick too it's even worse.
We have been listening to wild turkey's around here too. For so many years the turkey's were gone so seeing the population expand is great.

    1. That is great they are coming back. We have counted as many at 23 out in the field behind the house. They are impressive birds!

  4. broke a needle??? that is sad, I knit mainly with metal so I can't destroy them. I did buy a pair of wooden ones the other day to just test drive (test knit?). Lovely stitching! did you change your header? I love it!!!

    1. Thanks Karen! I can't seem to settle on a header for any length of time right now so it has been changing much too often. I really like this one, so it might just stick around for a bit!
I have used wood needles a lot with great success but never this tiny! I only have a few *bent* metal ones but I loose stitches too easily on them!
Hope you like the wooden ones!

  8. Funny, one of the few times the TV is on frequently during the day here is if somebody is sick. It's a being-sick treat. :-)

I have to use metal needles for sock knitting--I snap the bamboo ones. Even the metal ones have a curve to them. I pull the stitches *tight* where the DPNs join, and it shows on my needles!

    1. That is funny Amy!
We don't watch much TV in general. When we do it is usually documentary... unless Dad is picking and we don't have any new Wild West docs checked out from the library! Then look out!
I have some hand-me-down metal needles that are almost all curved. I will have to share the needle case my mom picked up for me at an estate sale. It is pretty amazing. Who ever put it together obviously knit everything!
