Make & Listen Along

Make and Listen Along
~ On Thursdays I will post what we have been making and listening to as creations grow.
If so inclined post, on your blog or flickr, about what you have been making (on your own or with little hands by your side) and listening to while you create. It can be new music, flash backs, a song or a whole album... whatever you like. You can be stitching with needle & thread, yarn, paper crafting, painting, cooking... and beyond. Share what you are making and the tunes that are fueling your creativity. Then come back to my Thursday Make & Listen Along post and leave a link in the comments so we can be inspired right along with you! ~

Some of this week's making was inspired by Alphabet Glue. Annie put together some super fun projects in Vol. 12 and we have had fun with book making and kitchen table science this week.

The little man is always keen on new ways to make books and was taken with the idea of making an accordion book with a single sheet of paper! We used water color paper and after waiting patiently for the background paint to dry he made up a nature book... it started out as a baby animal book and expanded from there to include a few mama's and trees!

He has the rocks and minerals guide all set up in my cookbook stand while he works on his next book back in the studio. I think he is hooked on the accordion book!

We also used our very best scientific patience to wait for the shells of our eggs to dissolve so we could test out this amazing inflatable egg experiment. It worked awesome! We had a great conversation about the membrane, its durability, and ability to protect the chick. Neat science and nature combo. Perfect for this household!

As we were making along Sarah was in the background often while we listened to this and this

My ocean missin' heart has made me play this probably more than I should. And of course the rest of the album is awesome too. The kiddos can help but dance to "Fool Around."

What have you been making?
What is on your play list?
Please do share!

  1. So neat to see it worked! Once we get into our apartment next week I want to try it!

As for the making...I picked up my knitting finally. And of course I'm always scrapping up meals. And listening to of Monsters and Men as well as cold play.

  2. Love that accordion book! Our "making" this week has all been outside...getting garden beds ready, starting to plant a few things, enjoying a sudden shift in the weather, and putting together a brand new basketball hoop. Feels good to be able to spend more time outside. We have been loving Recess Monkey and Lucinda Williams lately.

    1. Springtime in the garden is just the best!
I had never heard of Recess Monkey... those are some fun and wild guys!
Adding Lucinda Williams to my music list. Thanks!

  3. I LOVE those accordion books! The illustrations are fabulous; they look so great on individual pages like that. We'll have to try that.

It's drizzling now so my photo re-takes may have to wait some more. Lately I've been listening to the Mumford + Sons station on Pandora, which pulls in all sorts of truly depressing music, so I should really stop.

    1. That song has a special place in my heart as well because the singer, Jonathan McEuen and the song writer, Jimmy Adams lived in my Cali town and were friends of my in-laws. I saw this song performed live many times. Love!

Love how your sampler is coming along!
      Thanks for sharing!
