By the time we got motivated yesterday it was midday and a long hike was vetoed by most in the household. We opted for a short walk and some local tourism. Salmon Ruins had been on our list since our arrival so we packed some water and headed out.
It was amazing to see the various types of construction used by the many different peoples who have occupied the site though its history. And to see it all surrounded by neighborhoods of modern construction made it all that more interesting.
It was scorching hot so we had the ruins to ourselves but we also did not linger as much as we would have liked to read the interpretive book given to us for our self-guided tour. We will certainly be back on a cool day in the fall. It got a thumbs up from everyone and we want to learn more when we are not melting in the heat.
In Nova Scotia we waited until midday to head out to give everything a chance to warm up... that is defiantly not a good strategy here!

I've never been there before. But it looks lovely. If you get a chance and it's actually open you all should make the trip down to Bandelier National Monument. So much climbing to be done there!
ReplyDeleteWhen we get back I'd like to take the girls to see Pipe Springs National Monument on the border of Utah and Arizona. It's an old working fort turned museum.

Wow, what a lovely place to explore. Lots of tourist spots to explore here, being so close to Toronto gives us lots to take in. I will admit though, we tend to head more towards cottage country to visit the local tourist spots, they are a little quieter and a little more to our liking.
ReplyDeleteWe defiantly try to stay clear of any major tourist spots as a rule. Nothing here is ever crowded though so we usually don't have to worry much. We will be heading into the belly of the beast when we hit some cool spots in Los Angeles on our trip so I am bracing myself for some crowds that we have not experienced in some time!
