Observing Nature

We have been spending a lot of our free time, between rainstorms, at the public garden by the nature center. There we have been spotting some pretty neat creatures and watching some fascinating behaviors.

It has been a good week for insects and our resident young entomologist has been excited to spot some new creatures and even add a few found specimens to her collection. She went ahead and ordered some more watchmaker's cases for her expanding collection and is excited about our upcoming visit to the local entomology lab at the college.

Good things.

    1. The caretaker of the nature center puts food on the stumps for the birds and the deer come to eat it. There was another fawn off to the side. Twins! They were so sweet!
Nature is so very inspiring indeed!

    1. Yes Susan. It is amazing to think it is right in the middle of town. The river draws amazing amounts of wildlife. We feel so fortunate to have this place here.

  5. We've been seeing those moths everywhere! And the deer how cool is that! So far just in our neighborhood we've seen three javalinas, countless hawks and cotton tail rabbits, lizards of every size and color. Oh can't forget the gambel quail. The desert is so rich with wildlife. In the first week we were back here I saw more wildlife than I did in the 5 months we were in France. And we lived in the countryside there too.

    1. You guys are spotting a lot of critters!
The desert has been amazing for wildlife. The kids saw their first quail awhile back and I was so excited. They are one of my favorite birds. We used to see California Quail all the time hiking in Cali. Love to see their babies following along behind. So sweet.
I think the thick forest makes it do much more difficult to spot wildlife unless you sit still and quiet for a very, very long time ;-)

    1. That is my motto! Never too many. ;-)
Those praying mantis are the most graceful and amazing creatures. We found egg cases in two trees here today. Babies next spring!
