Make & Listen Along & Other Random Bits

~ On Thursdays I will post what I have been making and listening to as creations grow.
If so inclined post, on your blog or flickr, about what you have been making (on your own or with little hands by your side) and listening to while you create. It can be new music, flash backs, a song or a whole album... whatever you like. You can be stitching with needle & thread, yarn, paper crafting, painting, cooking... and beyond. Share what you are making and the tunes that are fueling your creativity. Then come back to my Thursday Make & Listen Along post and leave a link in the comments so we can be inspired right along with you! ~

Well, hello there! My name is Dawn and I write and share photos at this here blog. It has been a bit of a crazy time around these parts, but I think we are getting as back-on-track as possible, until the upheaval of moving truly sets in.

I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday season. I am going to try to share a bit more about ours in the coming days.

I did manage to make a few gifts this year.

Once I learned to put in a zipper I was off and running; making an absurd number of zipper bags. Many thanks to Amy for all of the cheering on and links. I also found this tutorial super helpful too.

This fabric is so super cute and is not nearly as neon as this photo suggests!

These ones are gifts for family and I put a divided bit of elastic in each one for securing bottles of essential oils

I tried to match personalities with fabric and had fun going through my stash to put these together.

There have been lots of walks at the river, preferring to stay closer to home for walks these days. All along the river there is ice to explore and play with. We have heard that this river would freeze over and folks could ice skate not only on the river but from one town to the next. Times are a changing.

Lego building has been a highlight of the holiday, as usual. The little man designed this pegasus and many other mythical creatures. I love this one.

We tried to share popcorn and cranberries with the birds but have had no takers. I think there are lots of bird feeders around with the seed and suet they prefer.

The kiddos picked a bird for our Solstice candle. They imagined the light returning in flight. While I appreciate the slow changing of the season, a quick flight for the return of the light would not be rejected.

I started a 365 project last night. I had not given it any thought (this year is certainly going to be busy enough) but when Tara posted her shot I was sucked in. I think it is going to be fun. Here is my first shot of the year: sunset.

We have been listening the this awesome a cappella group called Pentatonix. Love their sound and so impressed with their cover songs on YouTube. Very fun!

Your turn.
Please share what you have been making and the tunes on your playlist. And don't forget to leave a link to your post if you played along so others can visit your Make and Listen posts.

I have been trying to get around to visit your posts each week (sometimes it takes me a few days) and they are wonderful! Thanks, to all of you who are joining in and linking up!

  1. I'm working on a quilt for a 2014 baby, in between bouts of more virtuous photo editing that's due first! Love these bags though. Maybe 2014 will be the year I'll try to master zippers?

  2. Oh my I LOVE those pouches and what a great idea! Would like to see a snippet of the elastic on the inside...I go to my sewing machine many, many times a day and make many, many things...in my mind. This is a year of doing more art, sleeping more, and in order to so, organizing life as much as life can be around here! So far none of those things have come into being but hey, I gave myself a day of yesterday. :)

Still making those minecraft gloves for the boys with two more to go! For listening, we had a great time dancing away to CBC Radio2 Top 100, the boys especially loved #1!

I'll post a link to my art blog since for all those creating it's incredible:

I packed all of those pouches up to send but I need to make myself one and I will take a picture of the elastic for ya. I am still working on what will work best for the EO's.
Love all of the art you have been creating! I know you will find a groove again!

    1. I was just thinking yesterday about budgeting envelopes. I really think we need to do that. Especially with things getting tighter with the move! Have you used that system before?
