Make and Listen Along
~ On Thursdays I will post what we have been making and listening to as creations grow.
If so inclined post, on your blog or flickr, about what you have been making (on your own or with little hands by your side) and listening to while you create. It can be new music, flash backs, a song or a whole album... whatever you like. You can be stitching with needle & thread, yarn, paper crafting, painting, cooking... and beyond. Share what you are making and the tunes that are fueling your creativity. Then come back to my Thursday Make & Listen Along post and leave a link in the comments so we can be inspired right along with you! ~
My girl loves to catch frogs. She is a pretty snappy frog hunter too!
So my talented mom made her a frog inspired dress which quickly became a favorite and was worn often... barefoot in the backyard, with mud boots at the pond and every which way in between... except for with tights. No tights for this girl!
When she grew out of it she asked me to make the skirt portion of the dress into a skirt. I had done this before with other long dresses my mom had made. I said yes and it sat in the wip pile.
Yesterday I was inspired to get some projects finished and the fabric closet was open, which is always an invitation for little people to explore. She found the dress, brought it over to the desk and gave me the look.
I started deconstructing.
She is going to help me sew the casing for the skirt today. The next question was what to do with the super cute bodice?
While kiddos were busy at play I decided on a raw edge bookmark for my frog lovin' girl...
It was fun to pick out little bits to add and it was just the type of messy sewing I needed.
She loved it!
As I cut and sewed along I was listening to these talented brothers & their band. So good!
What have you been making?
What is on your playlist?
Please do share!
What a lovely little bookmark. I have a little frog lover here too, he has been asking when they will be back almost every day. We will be hitting the creek for tadpoles soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the intro to the Avett brothers.

Thanks for joining in Kim!
DeleteMy frog lover has been asking about them too... Afraid there are far less round these parts!
And I have Amanda & Kristy to thank for the introduction to those talented brothers!
The bookmark is awesome, and thanks for turning me onto the Avett Brothers. Love!!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm inspired to go create something...
Thanks & you are so welcome.
DeleteI loved Fallon's element dolls. Yes... Mama needs to make something!
Great bookmark and I love the button at the top, great detail-it's sad when they outgrow clothes but to upcycle it into something else is a great way to hang on to it for a while longer.
ReplyDeleteShe was so happy to see part of her dress become a bookmark... Since she is a huge bookworm as well. It is hard to see her grow out of things my mom makes!
DeleteOh... And the button was her favorite part too!
Deletevery cute! and the bookmark - i might've squee'd when i saw the top part with the button that looks like a big frog eye :)
ReplyDeletehere's mine: http://www.thehabitofbeing.com/journal/?p=7266
My mom said when she saw those buttons she knew they would be perfect for the dress. F loves them too!
DeleteThanks for joining in!
I love how you repurposed your daughter's dress! Very cute. I saw on Pinterest this week a cute idea of taking too-small girl/baby clothes and making American Girl doll-sized clothes!
ReplyDeleteHere is my post this week: http://lifeonacanadianisland.blogspot.ca/2013/04/make-listen-along.html
F has been asking for some doll clothes. My mom actually made her a doll size version of this dress. So cute!
DeleteLove the apron you made for C!
Thanks for playing along!
I've done little making this week, alas, although I made banana bread this morning! I made myself give up coffee so I can finally sleep. I made a resume and sent some big-feeling emails for an almost-40 SAHM who hasn't drawn a paycheck in over 10 years.
ReplyDeleteI think my Mumford + Sons depressing-as-heck station on Pandora plays the Avett Brothers too.
Those are some pretty big makings this week Amy!!
DeleteWell, the Avett brothers are not exactly your peppy-go-cherry folksy band so I can see that! :-)
The making this week has been lists. Love, love, love the bookmark with the froggy eye button (great find for your mom!) We are fans of The Mouse and The Motorcycle too.
ReplyDeleteLots of list love here too!
DeleteMy mom has an amazing way of finding the cutest things that make everything just right!
The kiddos could not wait to get book two after we finished the first one. So fun!
